Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex hosted a private breakfast for nine female South African activists at the British high commissioner’s residence in Bishopscourt. During their meeting, they discussed the diverse roles played by each of these women and how they come together to work towards a more peaceful South Africa. They spoke openly about the murder issues throughout the country, specifically gender-based violence. This news of Thursday's breakfast comes shortly after an Instagram post showed Meghan paying her respects to Uyinene Mrwetyana, a 19-year-old South African student who was raped and murdered earlier this summer, by tying a ribbon at her memorial.
'Visiting the site of this tragic death and being able to recognise Uyinene, and all women and girls effected by GBV (specifically in South Africa, but also throughout the world) was personally important to The Duchess,' reads the post.
It also includes the Xhosa phrase 'Simi kunye kulesisimo,' which means 'We stand together in this moment.'
Meghan looked very polished and professional in her black and white ensemble, featuring another affordable piece from J. Crew. Her J Crew Pull-on flare sweater skirt in textured stripe skirt is almost sold out but I found some of my favorite look-a-like options.
