Buy Now: Striped Resortwear
Stripes are nautical by nature, so it’s no surprise that Resortwear 2012 is full of all kinds of linear patterning. Whether they be sailor-inspired or modern squigglies, bold colorblocks or tone-on-tone neutrals, stripes are all over. Our favorite striped pieces are long, romantic maxis and any kind of bikini. Elegant, wide-legged trousers and laid-back open knits lend themselves best to the colorblocking trend. And, to save the best for last, resortwear designers are having a ball when it comes to accessories, playing with texture to create stripes on bags and a rainbow of color on wedges.
1. Rachel Pally Stripe Cutout Maxi Dress ($238)
Nautical in navy. It doesn’t get more classic than navy and white stripes, but when paired with a flowing sillhouette, daring v-neckline and sultry back cutout, it doesn’t get any sexier either. Throw on and go for poolside lounging or vamp up with wedges for cocktails by the beach.
2. Zimmermann Dreamer Mismatched Bikini ($250)
A “model” bikini. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley wore this Zimmerman bikini to catch some rays with her man. Its floral padded bandeau top contrasts perfectly with its wavy striped bottoms for a playful look by land or by sea. Layer with a cropped loose knit sweater and cutoffs for seaside style that envies Alessandra Ambrosio or Rosie, herself.
3. Pierre Hardy Canvas Wedge Sandals ($695)
Sky high stripes. A rainbow of stripes collide to create a kaleidoscope of color. Set atop six inch wedges, these canvas heels are enough to give any outfit A-list appeal.
4. Central Park West Santa Cruz Cropped Stripe Dolman Sweater ($149)
Cute and cropped. Stripes evolve into colorblocks to create this stunning loose knit sweater. Throw on with crops or cutoffs, this sweater is versatile enough to wear to the beach or brunch. Ribbed hemline with side slits.
5. Chris Benz New Crawford Trousers ($595)
Elegance embodied. These silk trousers have stunning wide legs that finish with a blaze of glory: a set of orange colorblocked hems. Their high waistline is embellished with an extra wide waistband and grey leopard belt. Pair with a simple black tank and wedges for impeccable elegance.
6. House of Harlow 1960 Riley Clutch ($275)
Stripes a la Richie. Designer Nicole Richie plays with texture to create the stripes on this clutch. Canvas insets are responsible for the stripe patterning, while a bold cobalt blue provides the resort-worthy color. Pair with anything in your closet for an instant shot of seaside glam.
