Denim Round-Up Through the Decades
Rounding up the latest in denim was a walk in the park, or better yet, a walk through the past 60 years of fashion. Embracing all that is classic American denim, there’s a little bit from every decade. Old western shirts are new again. Brightly-colored cropped pants are back from the 50’s, flares from the 60’s, and midi skirts are fresh out of the 70’s. If you were a child of the 80’s, take another turn with your embellished jean jacket. From more recent history, waistbands are rising circa the 90’s (before ultra-low rise pants took the fashion world by storm). Although none of these styles are new, all of them are fresh-faced for another go-around on the runway and street. Hope you like what we rounded up!
1. Flying A Studded Denim Jacket ($295)
Studded shoulders have been showing up everywhere, from cocktail dresses to button-up shirts to this denim jacket. Add instant edge, and a little rocker chic style, when you throw on this piece.
2. Theysken’s Theory Siro Denim Skirt ($250)
Perfect for showing off those fabulous wedges and espadrilles, the midi skirt is back. This denim version works late spring with a blouse, summer with a tank, and early fall all-layered up.
3. 7 For All Mankind Bell Bottom Super Flare Jeans in Vintage California ($197)
My personal favorite flare of the season, this 7FAM has a vintage wash that is completely convincing. Its perfect bell leg adds just the right amount of drama to anything.
4. Tory Burch Faded Denim Western Shirt ($255)
Ride on, cowgirl! This western shirt (and every other denim shirt variation out there) is the perfect denim jacket stand-in for warmer weather. Terrifically boho when layered up, as Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale have been seen doing lately.
5. J Brand 11″ Ankle Skinny Jean ($176)
Think flats and cardi if you want to channel 50’s prep or layer this red J Brand with other bold brights (as we suggested in yesterday’s blog) for an outfit purely from this decade.
6. Citizens of Humanity Rebel Highrise Durable Short ($174)
Emma Roberts has been seen all over town with her high-waisted denim shorts, which inspired us to add a pair to this blog. A high waistline shows off those curves and feels so fresh in the world of denim shorts.
